Blink Mini 2K+: Two-Minute Review

Since its initial launch in 2020, the Blink Mini has undergone significant enhancements. Originally a basic 1080p security camera, it was upgraded in 2024 with color night vision and outdoor capabilities, evolving into the Blink Mini 2 before its latest iteration as a 2K camera (2,560 x 1,440 pixels) in September 2025.

Available in black or white, the camera can be purchased individually or in a two-pack. We tested the two-pack version in white, currently priced at £69.99 (approximately $100 / AU$140) on Amazon. Alternatively, a single unit is available for £39.99 (around $50 / AU$80). Unlike many of Blink's battery-operated products, the Blink Mini requires a constant power source.

This wired design contributes to its compact size, measuring about 2 x 2 inches (5 x 5 cm) and standing roughly 3 inches (8 cm) tall with the base. Its lightweight nature makes it easy to relocate within your home, ideal for monitoring specific areas while away.

Installation involves downloading the camera's app and adding the device using the QR code on the back. Alternatively, you can enter the serial code manually. The Blink Mini operates solely on a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network, which may be a limitation for some users, but it did not pose a significant issue during testing.

The Blink Mini 2K+ can function independently via the app or as part of a larger network with other Blink devices, including video doorbells and indoor/outdoor cameras. It features a built-in siren and can serve as an indoor chime for the Blink video doorbell, which lacks its own plug-in chime accessory.

Additionally, the device integrates seamlessly with Amazon Alexa, allowing users to view footage through the Alexa app or compatible Fire TV devices and receive notifications on Alexa-enabled devices like Echo smart speakers.

While full functionality, including motion alerts filtering (known as Blink Smart Detection), requires a subscription, Blink's plans are competitively priced, starting at £2.50 per month, significantly lower than competitors like Ring.

Subscription Options

Blink Basic Plan: £2.50 (about $3.50 / AU$5) per month or £24.99 (about $35 / AU$50) annually. Covers one camera with features like 30 days of cloud storage, person/vehicle detection, and video editing capabilities.

Blink Plus Plan: £8 (about $10 / AU$16) per month or £80 (about $100 / AU$160) annually. Covers unlimited cameras at one location, including all Basic features plus discounts on Blink devices and extended warranties.

Local Storage (No Subscription): Free with the purchase of Sync Module 2 (£34.99 - about $50 / AU$70) and a USB flash drive, allowing local clip storage. Note: Blink Smart Detection and Blink Moments are not available with this option.

Price and Availability

  • Cost: $49 / £39.99 / AU$89 each (£70 for two), $US49 ($89 for two), AU$69 ($130 for two)
  • Availability: Since September 2025
  • Regions: UK / US / Australia

Blink has built a reputation for affordable home security solutions, and the Mini 2K+ is no exception. While many cameras are priced around $130 / £100 / $200 each, a two-pack of Blink Mini 2K+ cameras is available for less.

While basic features like motion alerts and two-way audio are accessible without a subscription, full functionality, including Blink Smart Detection and cloud storage, requires a monthly plan. Alternatively, investing in the Blink Sync Module 2 allows for local video storage, though this incurs additional costs.

With an IP65 water resistance rating, the Blink Mini 2K+ can be used outdoors, provided you purchase the 4m Blink Weather Resistant Power Adapter for an additional £9 (about $12 / AU$20).

  • Value Score: 4.5/5

Design

  • Extremely Compact
  • Built-in Spotlight
  • Mains-Powered Only

The Blink Mini 2K+ is notably compact, standing just an inch tall on a versatile stand. Available in white or black, it feels well-constructed despite its budget-friendly price. The rear features a USB-C socket, and a 6.5ft / 2m USB-A to USB-C cable and plug are included. A weather-resistant cable with power adapter is also available for outdoor use.

Setting up the camera is straightforward with the Blink app, using the QR code on the back for easy integration. The built-in speaker provides voice instructions during setup and can also function as a chime for connected Blink video doorbells.

Performance

  • 2K Resolution
  • Clear Two-Way Audio
  • Decent Color Night Vision

The Blink Mini 2K+ significantly outperforms its 1080p predecessor, especially with the 4x digital pinch-to-zoom feature, which maintains clarity when zooming in on details like faces or clothing.

Night vision has also improved, with the addition of a powerful built-in spotlight for color recording. During testing, the spotlight effectively illuminated areas, producing vibrant colored footage. The two-way audio has been enhanced to filter out background noise, ensuring clearer communication.

Users with a Blink video doorbell can set multiple Blink Mini 2K+ cameras as chimes, allowing for notifications throughout the house when the doorbell is pressed.

  • You want flexibility: Its compact design and pivot stand allow easy relocation.
  • You own a Blink video doorbell: The Mini 2K+ can serve as an indoor chime for the doorbell.

How I Tested the Blink Mini 2K+ Security Camera

  • I used a pair of cameras in various rooms for three weeks.
  • I set them up using the provided QR code.
  • I linked them to other devices, including a Blink video doorbell and several Amazon Echo speakers.

Testing during the holiday season allowed me to observe how the cameras responded to visitors. One camera monitored the hallway, while the other was moved between rooms. However, outdoor use was not tested due to the lack of a waterproof power adapter.
