  • The OLED MacBook Pro could arrive way before the end of 2026
  • Mass production has apparently already started on the displays
  • The upgraded screens are rumored to be touchscreen-capable too

Speculation has been rife regarding an OLED display upgrade for Apple's MacBook Pro lineup, and recent developments indicate that these upgraded models might debut sooner than initially expected.

According to reliable source Yeux1122 (via 9to5Mac), Samsung has commenced mass production of its latest 8.6-generation OLED panels, with Apple's OLED MacBook Pros likely to be the first to utilize them.

These panels were not anticipated to enter mass production until the second quarter of 2026 (April, May, or June), suggesting that the laptops themselves could make an earlier-than-expected appearance later this year.

Previous predictions had indicated a launch window around the end of 2026, but if the timeline can be accelerated, we might see an unveiling as soon as September or October. However, this remains speculative.

Touchscreen Capable Too

In addition to featuring OLED technology—which theoretically provides a superior viewing experience compared to the current LCD displays used in MacBooks, with deeper blacks and enhanced contrast—these panels are also expected to be touchscreen-capable.

Your interest in a touchscreen MacBook may vary, but it could further blur the lines between MacBooks and iPads, especially if both devices support touch input (and possibly the Apple Pencil).

If previous rumors hold true, only the higher-end MacBook Pros will receive the OLED upgrade, specifically those powered by the yet-to-be-announced M6 Pro and M6 Max chipsets. The more affordable models are likely to retain the current display technology.

Before the M6 series launches, there may still be room for the M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook Pros to be introduced—potentially as soon as this month or next—following the release of the refreshed M5 Apple laptops last year.
