- The Sony A7 V is the best-selling model at US and Japanese stores
- It also tops two of our main camera buying guides
- Strong all-round capabilities key to its appeal
The Sony A7 V is currently excelling in sales, and it's no surprise. Our detailed review from late last year highlighted it as writer Peter Fenech's "favorite Sony camera ever".
Looking at the latest sales figures, Japanese site Getnavi.jp reports that retailer Yodobashi ranks the A7 V as its top-selling camera for the second half of December 2025, despite being a new release. Additionally, Sonyalpharumors.com indicates that the camera is also the top seller at US retailer B&H Photo.
That's impressive, especially considering its price of US$2,899 / £2,799 / AU$4,699 for the body alone. The Sony A7 V also leads in two of our buying guides, recently being ranked number one in our Best Camera for Photography and Best Mirrorless Camera lists.
Why We Rate the Sony A7 V So Highly
The sales figures reflect the A7 V's excellence: it features a 33MP full-frame sensor that delivers an impressive 16 stops of dynamic range while addressing the rolling shutter issues of the A7 IV.
With a remarkable 30fps continuous shooting capability and the best autofocus performance we've seen from a Sony camera, it stands out. The integration of AI-powered autofocus and processing into a single chip also enhances battery life significantly.
However, the A7 V isn't without its drawbacks. Our review notes that less experienced users may find its extensive features overwhelming, and video-first users might be disappointed by the absence of open gate or 6K/8K recording options.
Nonetheless, for the price, the Sony A7 V is an exceptional camera and arguably the best Sony camera overall. For hybrid users looking to leverage both stills and video capabilities, it presents a compelling option, especially for those already invested in Sony E-mount lenses.
