- Yodobashi Camera has shared its best-selling cameras and lenses for 2025
- The shortlists are dominated by compact cameras and zoom lenses
- Fujifilm's X100VI still tops the cameras list, two years after its release
During my visit to Yodobashi Camera, the largest camera store in Japan and the world, I was amazed by the extensive selection of both new and vintage camera gear.
This visit coincided with the launch of the Fujifilm X100VI, which made history as the most pre-ordered camera upon its announcement. Two years later, it remains a favorite according to Yodobashi, which recently revealed its best-selling cameras for 2025, with the X100VI leading the pack.
The retailer's best-selling cameras list highlights a notable trend: compact cameras are thriving. Out of the 20 cameras listed, 18 are compacts, with the remaining two being different bundles of the Sony ZV-1 II, a vlogging camera that is smaller than many of the compacts.
While it's expected that affordable cameras would sell more than high-end mirrorless models, the presence of several premium compact cameras priced in the thousands, such as the Fujifilm GFX100RF, Sony RX1R III, and Leica Q3, indicates that price isn't the sole factor influencing sales.
Despite advancements in smartphone camera technology, compact cameras continue to attract photography enthusiasts.
The best-selling lenses list was equally intriguing—none of the 20 featured lenses are primes. All are zoom lenses, with Sony's FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II taking the top spot, followed by its 70-200mm F2.8 GM II in third place, while Canon secured seven entries on the list.
