  • Apple's next foundation models will utilize Google AI
  • The upgraded Siri is expected to launch later this year

Anticipation builds for the AI-enhanced version of Siri, as a new collaboration with Google suggests that the revamped voice assistant is nearing its release.

In a joint statement reported by CNBC, Apple and Google confirmed their multi-year partnership, with Apple set to leverage Google's AI models for features including a next-generation Siri.

The statement revealed, "Apple and Google have entered into a multi-year collaboration under which the next generation of Apple Foundation Models will be based on Google's Gemini models and cloud technology. These models will help power future Apple Intelligence features, including a more personalized Siri coming this year."

In a surprising admission, Apple acknowledged that Google's AI tools surpass its own capabilities. "After careful evaluation, Apple determined that Google's AI technology provides the most capable foundation for Apple Foundation Models and is excited about the innovative new experiences it will unlock for Apple users. Apple Intelligence will continue to run on Apple devices and Private Cloud Compute, while maintaining Apple's industry-leading privacy standards," the statement concluded.

Positive News for iPhone Users

This development is not entirely unexpected. Last year, reports indicated that Gemini might be the key to a revamped Siri, following insights from Mark Gurman at Bloomberg. Gurman first shared this information in August 2025, later reinforcing his findings.

Apple initially announced its plans for an AI-enhanced Siri during WWDC 2024, introducing its multi-modal Apple Intelligence platform, which includes various generative AI tools for tasks like image editing and AI search summaries. Although initially slated for a 2025 launch, the anticipated upgrade has yet to materialize.

The journey to the next-gen Siri has faced challenges. After the WWDC 2025 event, Apple postponed its launch, targeting a spring 2026 release. Meanwhile, competitors like Google and Amazon have made significant strides in the AI space, with products like Alexa+ recently launching on the web.

While the Apple-Google partnership appears promising for iPhone users, who have been dealing with the limitations of the current Siri, the exact launch date and implications for existing ChatGPT integration remain uncertain.
