Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii - MCMLXXII is coming to 4K Blu-ray courtesy of Sony Music Vision, with a release date set for February 27th, 2026.
This legendary 1972 concert film showcases tracks like Echoes, One Of These Days, and A Saucerful Of Secrets. The film has been meticulously restored from the original 35mm footage, promising enhanced colors and fine details, with restoration efforts led by Lana Topham, Director of Restoration for Pink Floyd.
For audio, viewers can enjoy three mixes: Dolby Atmos, stereo, and 5.1. The new home entertainment mix by Steven Wilson has enhanced the original soundtrack while aiming to maintain the band's authentic sound from 1971.
This 4K release follows a significant year for the band, as Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii - MCMLXXII returned to theaters worldwide in spring, and a 50th Anniversary edition of their iconic album Wish You Were Here was released in December with a new Dolby Atmos mix.
The 4K Blu-ray is available for pre-order now, and can be pre-ordered here. Pink Floyd: Live in Pompeii MCMLXXII is also available on CD, Vinyl, and Blu-ray.
The Arrival of 4K Blu-ray Music Films
While physical media has faced challenges in recent years, 4K Blu-ray continues to find its audience. My local HMV store in the UK shows a growing 4K Blu-ray section, filled with limited edition releases from The Criterion Collection and Arrow.
With the increasing support for 4K Blu-ray and the rise of Dolby Atmos and spatial audio, more concert films are being released on 4K Blu-ray, offering a premium home theater experience.
Pairing these discs with the best TVs and the best soundbars creates a magical experience, as I discovered while watching Hans Zimmer: Live in Prague as part of the July 2025 Blu-ray Bounty.
Pink Floyd joins a growing list of artists bringing iconic concert films to 4K Blu-ray, which already includes Peter Gabriel, David Bowie, The Rolling Stones, and Prince. For recommendations, my colleague Matt Bolton compiled a list of Dolby Atmos movies that focus on music, including concert films.
As a 4K Blu-ray enthusiast, I anticipate that 2026 will see this list expand even further.
