- Turner was cast as Croft for theTomb Raider TV show in late 2025
- Filming is also officially underway on the Amazon TV Original
Prime Video has unveiled the first official image of Sophie Turner as Lara Croft for its upcoming Tomb Raider TV show.
Released today (January 15) across the streamer's social media platforms, the professional shot showcases Turner in Croft's iconic attire. From the teal tank top and red-tinted sunglasses to the chunky belt and classic dual handgun holsters, Turner embodies the character for this latest live-action adaptation.
The image's release comes five months after Amazon announced Turner would portray Lara Croft in its Tomb Raider TV adaptation.
Initially, many long-time fans of the action-adventure game series expressed skepticism regarding Turner's casting. However, following the image's debut, numerous fans have changed their tune, praising her resemblance to Croft and the seriousness with which Amazon is approaching the adaptation. A thread on r/tombraider is filled with positive comments about the reveal.
This shift in sentiment marks a notable contrast to earlier reactions regarding the Phoebe Waller-Bridge-developed series. With Amazon confirming that filming has commenced, anticipation builds for the show's eventual release on one of the world's best streaming services.
Who else is part of the Tomb Raider TV show's cast? And when will it be released?
Currently, the release date remains unconfirmed. However, with principal photography now underway, a mid- to late-2026 launch seems plausible.
On January 6, Amazon revealed that four notable actors would join Turner in the cast.
These esteemed additions include Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Celia Imrie, and Bill Paterson. Alongside them, seven lesser-known actors will also feature in the series, as detailed in a recent Amazon MGM Studios press release:
- Martin Bobb-Semple as Zip, Lara Croft’s long-standing tech support and friend
- Jason Isaacs as Atlas DeMornay, Lara’s uncle
- Bill Paterson as Winston, the long-standing Croft family butler
- Jack Bannon as Gerry, Lara’s personal pilot and snack collector
- John Heffernan as David, an exhausted government official who finds himself tangled up in Lara's unusual world
- Celia Imrie as Francine, the Head of Advancement at the British Museum, focused solely on raising funds and glasses of champagne
- Paterson Joseph as Thomas Warner, a senior government official brought in to clean up an almighty mess
- Sasha Luss as Sasha, a fierce, deeply competitive new adversary of Lara’s
- Juliette Motamed as Georgia, a devoted, by-the-books curator at the British Museum, dedicated to the ‘proper’ preservation of history
- Sigourney Weaver as Evelyn Wallis, a mysterious, high-flying woman who is keen to exploit Lara's talents
- August Wittgenstein as Lukas, an illegal raider who shares history with Lara in more ways than one
It remains to be seen how all but three of the above characters – Zip, Atlas, and Winston have appeared in various Tomb Raider games – will factor into the story that Prime Video will tell. More details are expected to emerge in the coming days, weeks, and months.
