One of the highlights of using an iPhone is its exceptional display – known for sharpness, color accuracy, and smooth refresh rates on ProMotion-enabled devices.
However, this impressive display can significantly drain battery life, especially in bright environments.
While iPhones are generally efficient, their batteries tend to be smaller compared to other brands, making battery-saving tips particularly valuable for Apple users.
Here are five straightforward display settings you can adjust to prolong your iPhone’s battery life.
Turn Down the Brightness
Lowering your display brightness is a well-known method to save battery life on any phone, including iPhones. This tip remains relevant, especially as maximum brightness levels have increased over the years.
To adjust brightness, swipe down from the top-right corner of your screen to access the Control Center, then drag the brightness slider down.
Since the backlight consumes a lot of power, keeping the brightness at a lower level (while ensuring it's still comfortable for your eyes) is an effective way to save battery.
Disable Auto-Brightness
While auto-brightness can be convenient, it may lead to unnecessary battery drain as your iPhone adjusts brightness based on ambient light.
You can disable this feature by going to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size and turning off the Auto-brightness option. This gives you more control over your brightness settings and prevents excessive battery use in bright environments.
Low Power Mode
Low Power Mode is designed to reduce your iPhone's power consumption, including adjusting display behavior. You can enable it manually through the Control Center or when your battery reaches 20%, 10%, or 5%.
This mode dims the screen, limits auto-brightness, and reduces the display timeout to 30 seconds of inactivity. For ProMotion-enabled devices, it also restricts the refresh rate to 1-60Hz instead of 1-120Hz.
Reduce the Auto Lock Time
You can also adjust the duration before your iPhone automatically goes to sleep when inactive. This prevents the screen from staying on and draining power if you set your phone down without locking it.
Find this option in Settings > Display & Brightness under the Auto Lock menu. This adjustment allows for quicker Auto Lock without affecting performance like Low Power Mode does.
Dark Mode
Dark Mode changes the iPhone’s interface from bright colors to darker shades, which can help save battery life, especially on OLED displays. Since OLED screens don’t illuminate black pixels, using Dark Mode can significantly reduce power consumption.
To enable Dark Mode, access the Control Center, press and hold the brightness slider, and tap the Dark Mode icon, or navigate to Settings > Display & Brightness and select Dark in the Appearance tab.
