If you've recently acquired a Nespresso machine, you might be overwhelmed by the variety of coffee pods available. While the best Nespresso machines often come with a sample pack, this barely scratches the surface of what's out there.

Instead of randomly selecting a few boxes, consider the cost of coffee pods, which can add up quickly. You don't want to end up with several boxes of capsules that you don't enjoy but feel obligated to consume.

That's where I come in. After sampling numerous Nespresso coffees over the past few months, I've selected three flavors that are sure to please.

Unfortunately, many of Nespresso's most intriguing flavors are limited editions. While I thoroughly enjoyed Pistachio Vanilla, Coconut Vanilla, White Chocolate and Strawberry, and Cinnamon and Candied Tamarind, these options have now been discontinued. However, the following selections are still available, and I've included links to the best prices so you can grab a box of any that catch your eye.

1. Nespresso Sweet Vanilla Decaffeinato

I test a lot of coffee makers, and while I enjoy it, consuming excessive caffeine isn't always great for my sleep. That's why I was thrilled to try this creamy, decaffeinated vanilla brew, perfect for enjoying after dinner without the risk of a restless night.

The caffeine is extracted by soaking the beans in hot water, making them porous, then placing them in a pressurized container and exposing them to carbon dioxide. The caffeine is reused in some of Nespresso's Coffee+ 'functional' energy-boosting capsules, ensuring nothing goes to waste.

While coffee can have natural vanilla notes, these pods enhance the flavor with added sweetness. During my barista training, my tutor referred to such drinks as 'cheating coffee,' but I appreciate the smooth and easy-drinking results.

The vanilla flavor complements the coffee without overpowering it, adding a mellow sweetness. Each pod brews a mug-sized portion, and I found it particularly enjoyable with a splash of oat milk. It's so soothing and delicious that it might even replace herbal tea as your go-to bedtime drink.

2. Nespresso Coffee+ Ginseng Delight

This unique flavor is part of Nespresso's Coffee+ range, designed as 'functional' drinks with added nutrients to boost energy levels.

This pod features ginseng, known for its bitter flavor, blended with robusta and arabica beans. Surprisingly, the brewed drink is well-rounded and fruity, thanks to a hint of caramel that balances the bitterness.

Nespresso suggests enjoying Ginseng Delight on its own, but I found that the caramel flavor works wonderfully in a latte. While I can't confirm if the ginseng had any noticeable effect, it was undeniably delicious.

After I first wrote about these pods, a reader shared that they were her favorites and inquired about their availability in France. Nespresso informed me they would be available soon, so hopefully, that reader is enjoying a delightful cup of Ginseng Delight right now.

3. Nespresso Coffee+ Vivida

Another offering from the Coffee+ line, Vivida (the large pink pod in the photo) aims to boost energy levels with a dose of vitamin B12. As the NHS explains, this vitamin is essential for producing red blood cells, maintaining a healthy nervous system, and releasing energy from food.

Each Vivida capsule contains 0.63μg of vitamin B12, within the safe limits recommended by the NHS. While animal products are good sources, vegans may be at risk of deficiency.

However, I was most interested in the flavor, and Vivida did not disappoint. Unlike the other two pods, this one has no added flavorings. Its biscuity aroma comes from a blend of light and medium-roasted arabica beans. Like the Sweet Vanilla, it pairs beautifully with oat milk, which enhances the sweetness and brings out the cereal notes in the coffee.

All the coffee capsules mentioned here are available in both Nespresso Original and Nespresso Vertuo formats.
