Nintendo's latest hybrid console is a remarkable device, recognized as one of the best gaming consoles and a top contender among handheld consoles.

If you haven't yet experienced the Nintendo Switch 2, I highly recommend it. Since its launch in June 2025, I've spent countless hours enjoying original titles like Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza, along with excellent ports such as Star Wars Outlaws Gold Edition.

Having spent significant time with the console, I want to share some general hidden features that can enhance your experience, whether you're a seasoned Nintendo fan or a newcomer to the Switch 2.

Here are nine tips and tricks that can be beneficial.

1. This One Setting Could Help Your Switch 2 Last for Years

One of the first adjustments I recommend after unboxing your Nintendo Switch 2 is to cap the battery's charge level at 80-90%. You can find this option in the settings under the 'System' tab. This prevents the battery from reaching a full charge, which can lead to degradation over time. While it may slightly reduce your playtime in handheld mode, it significantly extends the battery's lifespan, saving you from costly repairs later.

2. See Your Exact Battery Level and Never Be Caught Out Again

While adjusting the previous setting, also enable the 'Console Battery (%)' option. This adds a clear percentage indicator next to your battery icon on the home screen, allowing you to see exactly how much charge remains at a glance. This simple toggle can prevent unexpected shutdowns.

3. You Can Actually Use (Almost) Any Mouse You Want

If you're not a fan of the Joy-Con 2 controllers but want to utilize the unique mouse mode feature, you're in luck. You can connect a USB mouse to your console via the USB Type-C ports or the USB Type-A port on the dock. This provides a more comfortable gaming experience, although compatibility may vary by game.

4. Mouse Mode Makes Menus a Piece of Cake

Using the Joy-Con 2 controllers in mouse mode allows you to navigate the Switch 2's system menus easily. Simply place a Joy-Con on its side, and a mouse cursor will appear, making it simple to scroll through your game library and adjust settings.

5. Save by Avoiding the Official Webcam

The Nintendo Switch 2 is compatible with most USB webcams, allowing you to use a generic model instead of purchasing the official Nintendo Switch 2 Camera. If you have a webcam at home, give it a try to save some money.

6. You Can Swap A and B to Make the Most of Muscle Memory

If you're used to Xbox controllers, you might find the A and B button layout on the Switch 2 a bit confusing. Fortunately, you can swap the A and B buttons in the system settings, making it easier to adjust without worrying about accidental inputs.

7. Give Your Eyes a Rest with Dark Mode

The Nintendo Switch 2 features a dark mode, which can be activated in the 'Themes' tab of the settings menu. Selecting 'Basic Black' will reduce eye strain, especially during nighttime gaming sessions.

8. Get into Games Faster

If you only have one user profile, you can disable the user selection pop-up that appears when launching a game. Go to the 'User' tab in settings and enable 'Skip Selection Screen' to save time.

9. Share Virtual Game Cards

The Nintendo Switch 2 allows you to share your digitally owned games with friends or family through its virtual game card feature. Simply open the virtual game cards tab, select the game, and follow the prompts to share it for 14 days.
