- Sega will not be using Game-Key Cards for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds
- The physical Switch 2 release has been confirmed for March 26, 2026
- Pre-orders are live now, with an early purchase bonus
Good news for fans awaiting the physical release of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds on the Nintendo Switch 2. Sega has confirmed that the physical version will include the full base game on cartridge, as stated on its official website. The Game-Key Card logo is notably absent from the box art, confirming earlier speculations.
The physical Switch 2 Edition is set to launch on March 26, 2026, and is available for pre-order at $69.99 / £64.99. Players who pre-order will receive the Werehog character and vehicle as an early purchase bonus.
While Game-Key Cards can be useful for larger games exceeding the 64GB cartridge size, they have faced criticism from collectors due to their reliance on downloading most game files rather than storing them on the cartridge. This raises concerns about game preservation, especially if Nintendo discontinues online services, which could hinder access to necessary data for completing downloads.
By the time the physical Switch 2 version is released, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will have been available for around six months, featuring additional content such as new characters and race courses, including Hatsune Miku, Ichiban Kasuga, SpongeBob Squarepants, and Pac-Man.
