Spending long hours at a desk can often lead to distractions, whether it's the internet, delivery drivers, or even the temptation of snacks. If you're like me, you know how easily a day dedicated to writing can be sidetracked by a myriad of other 'important' tasks.
To combat this, I've turned to a lo-fi music streaming app called Lola. This user-friendly app plays lo-fi music and integrates smoothly with your preferred streaming service, such as Spotify or Apple Music, allowing for an ad-free listening experience.
If you're unfamiliar with lo-fi music, it's a genre characterized by its relaxed, mellow sound and intentional imperfections, often featuring minimal or no lyrics. It spans various styles, including hip-hop, jazz, and ambient.
Enhancing Focus, Relaxation, and Sleep
Upon opening the app, you're prompted to select a mode: 'focus/study', 'chill/relax', or 'sleep/nap'. Each mode is designed to cater to different listening needs. Personally, I favor the focus option, which offers a selection of tracks that are engaging yet calming enough to help maintain concentration.
When you enter 'listening' mode, Lola connects to your music service and launches a playlist. Although this process involves a brief switch to the music app, it ultimately allows you to focus on your work once the music starts playing.
Engaging Visuals and Animations
Lola also features beautiful animations and illustrations by artist AnchoPoncho, which enhance the listening experience. Initially, the app provides a single set of visuals, but you can unlock additional graphics by using the app more frequently and completing sessions.
At the end of each session, Lola displays various statistics, including total listening minutes and progress over time, along with a prompt to reflect on your experience.
Journaling Feature for Reflection
Another useful feature is the journaling option, which allows users to jot down thoughts related to their productivity sessions. You can also log your mood using a selection of emojis. This simple task helps connect your thoughts with your productivity.
While Lola isn't without its flaws, its simplicity is oddly satisfying. It encourages regular use and helps maintain focus.
If you're looking for a way to enhance your concentration or unwind after a long day, consider downloading Lola on iOS or Android and see how it works for you.
