- A new concept Lego set has been unveiled
- It features a model of the original iMac G3, showcasing a sleek design
- The project is currently under review to potentially become an official set, appealing to nostalgic Apple enthusiasts
Have you ever dreamed of constructing your own iMac? While that might be a tall order, you could soon have the chance to build the iconic iMac that Apple launched in 1998, using Lego bricks.
A new idea for a Lego set has surfaced, gaining popularity for its recreation of the iMac G3, Apple's first all-in-one computer.
This set comprises 700 pieces and is currently being evaluated by Lego's team to determine if it will enter production.
The concept was submitted through the Lego Ideas platform, where fans can propose their own sets and garner votes for consideration as official products.
Projects that reach 10,000 supporters are reviewed, and the iMac G3 has achieved this milestone. If the set is produced, the creator will receive 1% of net sales.
Analysis: A Nostalgic Tribute to the iMac
This Lego set is a visually appealing and faithful representation of the original all-in-one design. As noted by the creator, the cathode-ray tube and internal components are visible through the translucent sides, along with the included peripherals.
This concept is sure to resonate with nostalgia enthusiasts, as many fondly recall the iMac G3. However, not everyone shares this sentiment; our publication's own Lance Ulanoff recently reflected on the mixed feelings surrounding the iMac during its 25th anniversary.
As Lance points out, the iMac was a significant commercial success at a crucial time for Apple, marking the beginning of the 'i' product line that led to the iPod, iPhone, and iPad.
While many great concepts reach the 10,000 supporter threshold and are reviewed by Lego, this idea is still a way from becoming a reality. Nonetheless, being considered for production is a noteworthy accomplishment.
