- A new memory upgrade rolls out to ChatGPT Plus and Pro users today
- ChatGPT can now remember what you asked it a year ago
- Click Sources to find the exact conversations you had
ChatGPT can now recall your queries from a year ago and display the exact conversation. This latest memory upgrade for Plus and Pro users transforms past chats into something searchable, permanent, and surprisingly useful.
Its memory is now so effective that you can inquire about that chili sauce recipe you requested a year back, and it will likely retrieve it, complete with a link to the specific conversation.
ChatGPT Never Forgets
Prior to this memory enhancement, if you asked ChatGPT about discussions from a year ago, it would typically respond with something like, “I don’t actually have a window into your full chat history going back a year,” followed by some rather unhelpful suggestions about checking your browser history.
Now, it displays a “remembering” message and then provides exactly what you were asking a year ago.
As a Plus user, I tested it — and it’s genuinely impressive. I typed:
“What was I asking you a year ago?”
The response included a detailed summary of everything I had been inquiring about at that time. Apparently, I was exploring Nicolas Winding Refn films, and if you’ve seen any of them, you’ll understand why I needed some assistance.
Check Your Sources
Thanks to the Sources feature in ChatGPT, you can now directly revisit those exact chats from a year ago. Click Sources at the bottom of the reply, and a panel will open, showing direct links to the original conversations.
This is genuinely remarkable. Suddenly, chats feel less disposable. I’ve long moved on from trying to decipher the intricacies of Refn’s mind, but it was fascinating to revisit those discussions.
If you’re a Plus or Pro user, you can try this feature right now. There’s no need for an update — just ask ChatGPT what you were inquiring about a year ago, and you might be surprised by the results. This feature has been rolled out globally to all ChatGPT Plus and Pro users today.
