- A schedule feature for Google Photos backups has been spotted
- Currently, the feature is not live in the app
- It could allow users to choose when backups occur
For many users on both Android and iOS, Google Photos serves as the primary app for backing up photos and videos to the cloud. It appears that users may soon gain more control over their backup processes.
As reported by Android Authority, the latest version of Google Photos for Android contains hidden code indicating an upcoming redesign of the backup settings page, aligning it with the Expressive UI elements introduced in Android 16.
A new feature, referred to as Backup schedule, has been mentioned. While details remain scarce, it seems users will have the option to select when their files are synced with the cloud for safekeeping.
This could allow for daily or weekly backups, or even the ability to specify times when backups should not occur—useful for those with limited internet connections who may wish to pause backups during peak usage times.
Coming Soon
The current functionality of Google Photos allows automatic backups to sync whenever there is an internet connection, although users can restrict this to Wi-Fi only. Presently, customization options are limited to turning automatic backup on or off, with the option for manual backups as well. Many power users would likely appreciate additional options for managing backup schedules.
While the code for this feature is visible within the Google Photos app, it is not yet active. The timeline for its launch remains unclear, but the presence of this code suggests it may be implemented soon.
Google is expected to provide further information when the feature goes live. In the meantime, users should look out for updates to the backup settings page in Google Photos for Android, as changes are on the horizon.
