NYT Connections today (game #944) - the answers

The answers to today's Connections, game #944, are:

  • YELLOW: HOLLOW CYLINDERS HOSE, PIPE, STRAW, TUBE
  • GREEN: SOFTWARE PLATFORMS APP, DESKTOP, MOBILE, WEB
  • BLUE: TAKE OFF BOOK, DIP, JET, SPLIT
  • PURPLE: UNITS OF MEASURE BAR, GRAM, MOLE, VOLT
  • My rating: Hard
  • My score: 2 mistakes

I made two mistakes today. The first was a simple error, while the second was more calculated, resulting in a “one away” pop-up.

My first mistake was including BAR in the group of HOLLOW CYLINDERS instead of HOSE, likely due to my focus on sturdier cylinders rather than the more flexible hose. My second error occurred while identifying UNITS OF MEASURE; I initially chose DIP over MOLE, which I should have recognized as short for molecule.

  • BLUE: MUSICAL ARTISTS MINUS STARTING NUMBERS 6 MAFIA, CHAINZ, DIRECTION, NON BLONDES
  • PURPLE: CARDINAL DIRECTIONS WITH FIRST LETTER CHANGED COUTH, FORTH, LEST, OAST

What is NYT Connections?

NYT Connections is one of several popular word games created by the New York Times. It challenges players to find groups of four items that share a common theme, with varying difficulty levels: green is easy, yellow is a bit harder, blue is often quite tough, and purple is usually very challenging.

While you don't need to solve the final group, you can answer it through elimination. You can also make up to four mistakes, providing some leeway.

This game is more complex than Wordle, with many opportunities for tricky answers, including homophones and other wordplay that can obscure the solutions.

It's available for free on the NYT Games site for both desktop and mobile.
