Introducing Moondrop's Skyland Headphones: A Blend of Innovation and Comfort
  • Open-back headphones with 100mm planar drivers
  • Full Drive Tech for larger effective area
  • $799 (about £595 / AU$685)

Moondrop has launched its latest Skyland planar magnetic headphones, boasting large and efficient drivers. However, what truly stands out is the innovative headband design.

The headband features a flexible, hollow carbon-fiber strap that has been 3D-printed in a multi-segmented adjustable style. This design aims to provide excellent support, lightweight comfort, and breathability for users of all head sizes.

While the headband may not be the most technically advanced aspect of these high-spec headphones, its comfort could significantly enhance long listening sessions.

Of course, the main attraction is the impressive 100mm planar magnetic driver, equipped with 500nm diaphragms and fine mesh protective grilles.

This driver incorporates Full Drive Technology, which distributes the planar circuits across the entire vibrating section rather than just a central rectangle. Moondrop claims this results in performance comparable to electrostatic headphones, with treble quality that surpasses traditional planar magnetic models.

Moondrop Skyland Headphones: Key Features and Pricing

The Skyland headphones are designed with an open-back structure, featuring a low-diffraction matte surface and a metal protective grille positioned away from the diaphragm to ensure protection without compromising audio quality. The earcups are fitted with soft lambskin earpads designed to enhance sound clarity.

Constructed from a high-strength all-aluminum alloy, the headphones utilize a thin suspension system for the drivers, which Moondrop describes as challenging to manufacture but capable of delivering exceptional detail.

The replaceable cables feature a universal 3.5mm interchangeable design with an inclined angle. The included cable is a 4.4mm balanced version, accompanied by a 4.4mm to 6.35mm adapter and a 4.4mm to XLR balanced Cannon four-core adapter.

With an impedance of 60 ohms and a remarkable frequency response ranging from 8Hz to 34kHz, the Skyland headphones promise impressive audio performance. Sensitivity is rated at 96dB/Vrms.

The Moondrop Skyland planar magnetic headphones are now available for $799 (approximately £595 / AU$685).
