Fans eager to return to Baird College can now enjoy an unexpected treat: Hulu has released an additional episode of Tell Me Lies season 3. All three episodes are currently streaming, despite the initial plan to only release two episodes on January 13.
With a total of eight episodes planned for the season, the finale is now set for February 17, moving up from February 24. However, this does not mean the drama is any less intense.
In fact, the opposite is true. If you haven't yet watched the first three episodes on Hulu or Disney+, you might want to skip the next part of this article, as Lucy (Grace Van Patten) and Stephen's (Jackson White) relationship takes a darker turn by the end of episode 3.
Opinion: Stephen's Manipulation of Lucy Reaches New Heights in Tell Me Lies Season 3 Episode 3
WARNING: spoilers for Tell Me Lies season 3 episode 3 ahead.
At the conclusion of season 2, Stephen sent Bree a recording of Evan (Branden Cook) confessing to cheating on Bree with Lucy during their university days, just before Bree and Evan's wedding in 2015.
As season 3 unfolds, set in the gang's final months before graduation in 2009, Bree remains unaware of the truth about Evan and Lucy, and Lucy is determined to keep it that way. After breaking up with Stephen yet again in episode 2, Stephen uses Evan's secret as leverage to control Lucy.
In episode 3, this manipulation escalates as Stephen films Lucy confessing to lying about a rape allegation, which Lydia (Natalee Linez) – who was actually assaulted – did not want to report. The episode concludes with a heart-wrenching scene of Lucy in tears on camera, her life unraveling.
This moment marks a disturbing low for Stephen, who has long exhibited manipulative behavior. His friends often remind him that he projects his frustrations onto those closest to him, but with Lucy, there is a more complex power dynamic at play.
While the truth will eventually surface, the immediate future looks grim for Lucy, who may push herself to the brink of illness, returning to Stephen when she should not. Though she seeks solace in Alex (Costa D'Angelo), it seems unlikely that this distraction will last.
Tell Me Lies has delivered numerous shocking cliffhangers, but this particular moment has left a lasting impact. While Lucy has made her share of mistakes, Stephen's abusive tendencies have persisted for too long, and it appears he may have finally crossed a line.
